TickTalk 5 uses a multi-layered location system designed to provide accurate and reliable location tracking across a variety of environments.
Instead of relying on a single technology, TickTalk automatically selects the best available location source and continuously improves accuracy using AI-powered SmartPin technology.
Location Technologies
TickTalk 5 uses three location technologies:
Wi-Fi Location
Wi-Fi location is the watch's primary location method. By identifying nearby Wi-Fi networks, TickTalk can quickly determine location with an accuracy of approximately 100–500 feet.
GPS Location
When Wi-Fi information is unavailable or weak, TickTalk uses GPS. GPS typically provides outdoor location accuracy between 10–300 feet, depending on environmental conditions.
Cellular Tower Location
If Wi-Fi and GPS are unavailable, TickTalk uses nearby cellular towers as a backup location source. Accuracy varies based on tower density and signal strength.
By combining all three technologies, TickTalk provides reliable location tracking indoors, outdoors, and while moving.
AI-Powered SmartPin
TickTalk 5 is the first kids' smartwatch in the U.S. to feature AI-powered SmartPin location correction.
If a location appears slightly inaccurate, parents can manually pin the correct location in the TickTalk App. The system learns from these corrections and continuously improves location accuracy in frequently visited areas.
Does TickTalk Use Geo-Fencing?
TickTalk does not currently use geo-fence arrival or departure alerts.
During real-world testing, geo-fence notifications often produced inconsistent results due to signal fluctuations, especially indoors and in densely populated areas.
Instead, TickTalk focuses on providing:
- Real-time location updates
- Location history
- Multi-layered location tracking
- AI-assisted accuracy improvements
This approach provides parents with more reliable, on-demand location information.
Can I see my child's location history or route?
Yes—route/location history is available in the TickTalk App when the watch is set to Tracking Mode.
- Enable Tracking Mode in Parent Portal > Location Tracking Mode.
- On the map, tap Route History and choose a start/end time, then tap Playback.
- If Power Saving Mode is enabled, Route History isn’t available.
