Common Questions
- Why isn't my child's location updating?
- Why is TickTalk showing the wrong location?
- Why does the location seem inaccurate?
- Why is the watch stuck at an old location?
- Why does the app say "Last Seen" hours ago?
- How can I improve location accuracy?
TickTalk 6 uses Wi-Fi, GPS, and cellular signals to determine location. If one or more of these signals are unavailable, location updates may be delayed or less accurate.
Follow the steps below to improve location accuracy and restore location updates.
Common Causes
Location issues are most commonly caused by:
- Weak GPS signal
- Poor cellular coverage
- No Wi-Fi connection
- Airplane Mode enabled
- The watch being indoors
- Temporary network interruptions
- An outdated software version
- Location requests sent too frequently in a short period — wait a few minutes and try again
TickTalk can use GPS, Wi-Fi positioning, and cellular-tower positioning. GPS is generally the most precise, while Wi-Fi and cellular positioning can have a wider accuracy range. Indoors, without usable GPS or Wi-Fi, cellular-based location may be less precise. Weak signal areas and fast-moving vehicles can also affect location results — try locating the watch again after a few minutes.
Step 1: Check Cellular Connectivity
Location updates require the watch to be connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi.
Confirm that:
- The watch has signal bars
- Airplane Mode is turned off
- Your cellular service is active
If the watch is offline, location updates may stop until connectivity is restored.
Step 2: Connect to Wi-Fi
If available, connect the watch to a Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi helps improve location accuracy, especially indoors where GPS signals may be limited.
Step 3: Move Outdoors
GPS accuracy is usually best outdoors with a clear view of the sky. If the watch is inside a building, underground, or surrounded by dense structures, GPS performance may be reduced.
Move outside and allow several minutes for the watch to refresh its location.
Step 4: Restart the Watch
- Power off the watch.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Power the watch back on.
- Check whether the location updates correctly.
Step 5: Update the Watch
Make sure the watch is running the latest software version.
On the watch: Settings > OS Update
Software updates may improve connectivity and location performance.
Step 6: Review SmartPin Corrections
If a location appears slightly incorrect, you can use SmartPin within the TickTalk App to correct the location. Over time, SmartPin learns from these corrections and may improve accuracy in frequently visited locations.
