If you're having trouble making or receiving calls on your TickTalk 6, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Problem: Unable to Make a FaceTalk Video Call or Wi-Fi Call
If a FaceTalk video call or Wi-Fi call won't connect, check the following:
- The watch may already be on another call.
- The watch may currently be within a DND/Focus period.
- Calling may be restricted to Wi-Fi only while the watch is currently using cellular data.
- The watch battery may be too low.
- Watch use may be disabled from the TickTalk App.
- Turn off any VPN on the parent's phone and try again.
Problem: FaceTalk Video or Wi-Fi Calls Are Choppy or Blurry
- The watch's network connection may be unstable. Try switching between cellular data and Wi-Fi.
- The phone's network connection may be unstable. Try switching between cellular data and Wi-Fi.
Does TickTalk 6 Support Multi-Person Video Calls?
No. FaceTalk currently supports one-to-one video calls between supported watches, or between a watch and the parent app. Text and voice messages can still be shared with multiple approved users through supported group chat features.
Why Is a FaceTalk Video Call Limited to About Three Minutes?
Because a smartwatch has limited space for heat dissipation, video calls are time-limited to balance battery life, temperature, and safe operation. You can start another call after the previous one ends, but extended back-to-back video calling isn't recommended, since it can significantly increase watch temperature and battery use.
Problem: Can't Receive Calls
Step 1: Confirm the Watch Is Connected
Make sure the watch:
- Is powered on
- Has sufficient battery
- Has cellular signal or Wi-Fi connectivity
If the watch appears offline, see: TickTalk 6 Connection Issues: Offline, No Service, Not Activated, or Disconnecting
Step 2: Check eSIM/Wireless Activation
Make sure your TickTalk Wireless plan is active.
If you're using TickTalk Wireless, confirm:
- Your line is active in TickTalk App > My Services > Wireless & eSIM
- There are no account issues affecting service
Step 3: Check Approved Contacts
If Block Unknown Numbers is enabled, only approved contacts can call the watch.
Verify that:
- Your phone number is saved in the contact list
- The number is entered correctly
- The incoming caller ID matches the saved contact
For more information, see: Article U – Does TickTalk Block Calls from Unknown Numbers?
Step 4: Check Do Not Disturb
In the TickTalk App:
Settings > Do Not Disturb
Review the current DND schedule and temporarily disable it for testing.
Step 5: Restart the Watch
- Power off the watch.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Turn the watch back on.
- Test incoming calls again.
Problem: Can't Make Calls
Step 1: Confirm the Watch Is Connected
Make sure the watch has active cellular service or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Step 2: Verify the Contact Is Approved
TickTalk can only call contacts that have been approved and added by the parent or Primary User.
Note: If the watch is using a Travel Plan, traditional cellular voice calling is not included — use supported in-app calling over data or Wi-Fi instead.
Step 3: Check Airplane Mode
On the watch:
Settings > Airplane Mode
Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off.
Step 4: Restart the Watch
Restart the watch and test the call again.
Problem: Calls Disconnect or Fail
Step 1: Check Signal Strength
Move to an area with stronger cellular coverage.
Weak signal may cause:
- Dropped calls
- Failed calls
- Poor call quality
Step 2: Test Another Location
Try placing a call from a different location to determine whether the issue is coverage-related.
Step 3: Restart the Watch
Restart the watch and test again.
