How Messaging Works on TickTalk 6

TickTalk 6 supports two messaging options:

SMS Text Messaging – Send and receive text messages with approved contacts using their regular phone number. No TickTalk App is required for the contact.

In-App Messaging – Send secure messages through the free TickTalk App, including text, talk-to-text, voice messages, photos, GIFs, emojis, and eGreeting Cards. In-app messaging uses end-to-end encryption.

For your child's safety, both messaging options are limited to parent-approved contacts.

SMS Text Messaging (No App Required)

To use SMS messaging:

  1. Update the watch to the latest software version (Settings > OS Update).
  2. Add approved contacts and their phone numbers in the TickTalk App.
  3. Turn on Block Unknown Numbers for additional protection.
  4. Send a test text message to confirm setup.

Once approved, contacts can be assigned:

  • Full Access – Location, settings, messaging, and calling.
  • Limited Access – Messaging and video calling only.

Sending Messages from the Watch

TickTalk 6 does not include a traditional keyboard. Children can communicate using:

  • Talk-to-Text
  • Voice Messages
  • Photos
  • Emojis and GIFs
  • eGreeting Cards
  • Preset Responses
  • Parent-Created Custom Responses

To create custom responses:

TickTalk App > Settings > Custom Text Responses > +

Family Group Chats

Family members can communicate together in a group chat.

To create a group chat:

  1. Open the TickTalk App.
  2. Select Group Chat.
  3. Tap the + icon.
  4. Add approved contacts.

Participants must have either a TickTalk watch or the free TickTalk App.

Unable to Delete a Direct or Group Chat Message?

  1. Force-close the TickTalk App, reopen it, and try deleting the message again.
  2. If it still can't be deleted, clear the TickTalk App cache in your phone's system settings. Note: clearing app data/cache may remove locally stored chat history, depending on your device.
