Travel Plans: The Basics
What is a TickTalk Travel Plan?
A Travel Plan is a short-term, data-only add-on you can purchase through the TickTalk App before your trip. It gives your child's watch international connectivity in 160+ countries — so you can keep tracking their location, staying in touch, and receiving SOS alerts no matter where your family travels, without surprise roaming charges.
How is a Travel Plan different from our regular monthly plan?
Your regular monthly plan keeps your child connected at home in the U.S. A Travel Plan is a temporary international add-on that runs alongside it — your domestic plan stays active, and the Travel Plan handles connectivity abroad. You won't lose any of your usual features while traveling.
Is a Travel Plan data-only? Can my child still call and message while abroad?
Yes — Travel Plans are data-based, which means all features that rely on a data or Wi-Fi connection continue to work internationally: voice and video calls within the TickTalk App, in-app messaging, location tracking, and SOS alerts. Traditional voice calls or SMS to numbers outside the TickTalk App are handled by your U.S. plan, which is separate from the Travel Plan.
What data sizes are available?
Travel Plans come in three tiers:
- 1 GB — $10 — great for light use: location tracking, in-app messaging, and quick check-ins
- 5 GB — $35 — suited for moderate use over a longer trip
- 10 GB — $60 — ideal for extended travel or families who want extra headroom
Prices shown are before applicable taxes or charges.
Which countries are covered?
Our global coverage includes the most popular travel destinations, and covers 160+ countries under a single global rate — no need to select a region or configure anything. Just purchase, activate, and go.
🛒 Purchasing & Timing
When should I buy a Travel Plan?
You can purchase a Travel Plan up to 60 days before your trip. It holds in a ready state until you activate it, so you can plan ahead without worrying about the clock starting early.
How long does a Travel Plan last once activated?
You have 60 days from the date of purchase to activate your Travel Plan — if it's not activated within that window, it expires. Once activated, the Travel Plan is valid for 30 days, or until the included data is fully used, whichever comes first. Unused data does not roll over.
Where do I purchase a Travel Plan?
Open the TickTalk App and go to My Plans > Travel Plans. Select your preferred data size and complete the checkout — it only takes a minute.
Can I have more than one Travel Plan active at a time?
Only one Travel Plan can be active per device at a time. If you run out of data mid-trip, you can purchase a new plan from the app.
Travel eSIM: How It Works
What is a travel eSIM, and why does it matter?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built directly into your child's TickTalk watch. When you purchase a Travel Plan, it's delivered and activated over the eSIM — no physical SIM swap or extra hardware. Everything happens instantly through the TickTalk App.
Is my child's TickTalk watch compatible with Travel Plans?
Travel eSIM functionality is available on the TickTalk 6. To check which model you have, go to Settings > Device Info in the TickTalk App, or reach out to support.
How do I activate the Travel Plan eSIM?
Once you've purchased a Travel Plan, activation is straightforward:
- Open the TickTalk App and go to Plans > Travel Plans.
- Ensure the watch is connected to Wi-Fi during setup.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to finalize your travel plan purchase.
- The eSIM installs automatically — no QR codes or manual steps required.
- Activation typically completes within a few minutes.
When exactly should I activate the Travel Plan?
We recommend activating after you arrive at your destination, once you're within a supported country. This way, your 60-day validity window starts when you actually need it.
Will the watch automatically connect to a network when you arrive at your destination?
Yes. Once the eSIM is activated, the watch connects automatically to available carrier networks at your destination. No manual configuration needed — it just works.
Do I need to turn on roaming?
Yes. Make sure roaming is enabled on your child's watch. You can toggle this in Settings > Cellular > Roaming in the watch settings.
Data Usage & Plan Management
How do I know how much data is left on my travel plan?
You can check remaining data anytime in the TickTalk App under Plans. You'll also receive in-app alerts as your child approaches the data limit, so there are no surprises.
What happens when the data runs out?
The Travel Plan stops working once the data is fully used.
Can I top up data mid-trip?
Yes, you can. You're able to purchase top-ups directly from the TickTalk App. Once purchased, please restart your watch. You won't need to download a new eSIM or take any additional steps.
Troubleshooting
The watch was activated but isn't connecting internationally. What should I do?
Try these steps in order:
- Restart the watch.
- Ensure the watch is connected to Wi-Fi to confirm the travel plan was successfully activated.
- Confirm the purchased Travel Plan has been manually activated — a purchased plan does not activate automatically. Open My Services > My Plans and activate the Global Travel Data Plan when you're ready to use it.
- Toggle Airplane Mode on, then off.
- Toggle Roaming off, then back on.
- Confirm you are in a supported country.
- Check that the data hasn't been fully used.
Still not connecting? Contact TickTalk Support via the in-app chat.
The eSIM was accidentally deleted. What now?
No need to worry — the eSIM can be reinstalled on the same device. Contact TickTalk Support and the team will provide a reinstallation link. Note that each eSIM can only be installed on one device, so a new device would require purchasing a new plan.
Activation is taking longer than expected. Is that normal?
Most activations complete within a few minutes. In rare cases, it can take up to 24 hours. Make sure the watch has a stable Wi-Fi connection throughout setup. If it still hasn't activated after 24 hours, please reach out to support.
For Parents
Will my parental controls still work when we travel?
Yes — all parental controls remain fully active internationally. You keep full control from the TickTalk App no matter where your family is in the world.
Can I use the Travel Plan to keep the whole family connected, not just my child?
TickTalk is exploring the option to offer Travel Plans for parents' smartphones as well, with larger data packages suited for adult usage. Stay tuned for updates in the app.
Can my child listen to TickTalk Radio while traveling?
TickTalk Radio music stations are not available for overseas playback on a Travel Plan, since music rights are territory-specific. Some wellness stations may remain available while traveling, depending on licensing and service configuration.
