Common Questions
- Why am I not receiving TickTalk message notifications?
- Why am I not receiving incoming-call or FaceTalk notifications?
- Why are notifications delayed?
- Why do notifications stop when my screen is off?
- Why aren't notifications appearing on my lock screen?
- Why do messages appear only when I open the TickTalk App?
- How do I allow TickTalk to run in the background?
If TickTalk notifications are missing or delayed, check your phone's notification permissions, lock-screen settings, and background activity restrictions.
Setting names and menu paths vary by phone manufacturer and Android version. Follow the device-specific instructions in the TickTalk App where available.
Step 1: Allow TickTalk Notifications
- Touch and hold the TickTalk App icon.
- Tap App info or the information icon.
- Select Notifications.
- Turn on Allow notifications or Show notifications.
- Enable the available message and call notification categories you want to receive.
You may also find these settings under:
Settings > Apps > TickTalk > Notifications
Or, on some phones:
Settings > Apps & notifications > App info > TickTalk > Notifications
For audible and visible alerts, make sure the relevant categories are not set to Silent and allow sound and pop-up banners where available.
Step 2: Allow Notifications on the Lock Screen
If notifications arrive but do not appear while your phone is locked, check the system's lock-screen notification settings.
Google Pixel
Go to:
Settings > Notifications > Notifications on lock screen
On older versions, this may be under:
Settings > Apps & notifications > Notifications > Notifications on lock screen
Choose an option that shows notifications. If available, select Show conversations, default, and silent.
You can keep sensitive message content hidden while still allowing notification alerts to appear.
Samsung Galaxy
Depending on your software version, look under:
Settings > Notifications > Lock screen notifications
Or:
Settings > Lock screen > Notifications
Turn on lock-screen notifications and check that TickTalk is allowed to display them.
If you cannot find the option, search your phone's Settings for lock screen notifications.
Optional: Always On Display on Samsung
If you want to see notification indicators without waking the screen, search Settings for Always On Display.
On supported phones:
- Enable Always On Display.
- Under When to show or the display schedule, choose Always or Show always, if available.
Always On Display controls how information appears while the screen is off. It is not required to receive TickTalk push notifications.
For other Android phones, check the manufacturer's lock-screen notification settings.
Step 3: Follow the Notification Setup in the TickTalk App
Open:
TickTalk App > Settings > My App > Notification Settings
Tap Set up, if shown, and follow the instructions for your phone.
These instructions help you allow TickTalk through background and battery restrictions so notifications can arrive while you use other apps or the screen is off.
If Setup Opens Smart Manager
On phones that display this interface, follow:
Smart Manager > Utilities > App management > TickTalk > Allow to auto run
Enable Allow to auto run.
If these options do not appear, use the background settings below or contact your phone manufacturer for the equivalent setting.
Step 4: Allow Background Activity and Auto Start
Some Android phones restrict background apps to save battery, which can interfere with notification delivery.
Go to:
Settings > Apps > TickTalk > Battery
Depending on your phone, select or enable:
- Unrestricted
- Don't optimize
- Allow background activity
- Auto start / Auto run
These options may appear in separate menus. Use the settings available on your phone to allow TickTalk to operate in the background.
Samsung Galaxy Phones
Go to:
Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits
Then:
- Remove TickTalk from Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, if listed.
- Add TickTalk to Never sleeping apps, if available.
On some versions, these options are directly under Settings > Battery.
Step 5: Leave TickTalk Running in the Background
When you finish using TickTalk, return to your phone's Home screen and leave the app in the background.
- Avoid routinely swiping TickTalk away from Recent Apps, especially on phones that restrict apps after they are dismissed.
- Do not use Force stop in the phone's App info settings.
- If you have force-stopped or closed the app, reopen it before testing notifications.
Swiping an app away and using Force stop are different actions, and their effects vary by phone. For troubleshooting, leave TickTalk in the background rather than manually closing it.
You do not need to keep the app visible or leave your screen on. TickTalk is designed to reduce activity while idle and receive push notifications in the background.
Step 6: Check Internet Access, Including While the Screen Is Off
Your phone needs a working Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to receive notifications.
- Open a webpage to check the connection.
- If it is unstable, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- In TickTalk's system App info settings, check Mobile data, Data usage, or Mobile data & Wi-Fi.
- Allow Background data, if available.
- If Data Saver is enabled, allow TickTalk unrestricted data access.
If the problem happens only while the screen is off, check whether your phone's battery or network settings restrict background internet access during sleep.
Step 7: Check Do Not Disturb and Power Saving
Temporarily turn off Do Not Disturb and Battery Saver / Power saving mode, then test again.
Also check whether a scheduled mode automatically turns on at bedtime or during other times when notifications are missing.
If notifications work with these modes off, review their settings and allow TickTalk notifications or background activity where supported.
If notifications appear but make no sound, check notification volume and your phone's Sound / Vibrate / Mute setting.
Step 8: Update the App and Test With the Screen Locked
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Search for TickTalk and install any available update.
- Open the TickTalk App.
- Return to your phone's Home screen without closing the app.
- Lock the screen and have the watch send a new message.
- Check whether an alert arrives and appears on the lock screen.
If notifications still do not arrive, log out of the TickTalk App, log back in, and repeat the test. Make sure you have your login information available before logging out.
