Common Questions
- Why can't I hear my child during a call?
- Why can't my child hear me?
- Why is there no audio during FaceTalk or Wi-Fi calls?
- How do I adjust call volume on my phone?
- How do I adjust TickTalk message and incoming-call notification sounds?
Call volume controls what you hear during a connected call. Notification volume controls alerts for new messages and incoming calls. Follow the relevant section below.
If You Cannot Hear Sound During a Call
Step 1: Check Volume on Both Devices
While the call is connected:
- Use your phone's volume buttons to increase the active call audio.
- Check the watch's call volume if your child cannot hear you.
- Make sure neither person has muted their microphone.
- Check whether your phone's audio is playing through Bluetooth headphones, a car system, or another connected device.
Temporarily disconnect Bluetooth accessories and test again if you are unsure where the audio is playing.
Increasing ringtone or notification volume does not necessarily increase audio during a connected call.
Step 2: Check Microphone Access
If your child cannot hear you during a call through the TickTalk App, make sure the app has permission to use your phone's microphone.
Find TickTalk in your phone's app settings and check its microphone permission. If your phone has a system-wide microphone privacy control, make sure microphone access is enabled.
Then end the call and try again.
Step 3: Check the Connection
A weak or unstable connection may cause missing or interrupted audio.
- Make sure your phone has a stable connection.
- Check the watch's cellular or Wi-Fi signal.
- Try another location with better coverage.
- For FaceTalk or app-based Wi-Fi calls, try a different Wi-Fi network or switch your phone to cellular data.
Place another call after changing the connection.
Step 4: Temporarily Disable Your Phone's VPN
If you use a VPN on your phone, temporarily turn it off when troubleshooting FaceTalk or other calls through the TickTalk App.
- Turn off the VPN.
- Fully close and reopen the TickTalk App.
- Try the call again.
This step is intended for app-based calls, rather than regular cellular voice calls made through your phone's dialer.
Step 5: Restart and Update
If the issue continues:
- Restart your phone and the TickTalk watch.
- Update the TickTalk App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, if an update is available.
- Check the watch for updates under Settings > OS Update.
- Try another call.
How to Adjust Sounds on iPhone
During a Call
While the call is connected, press your iPhone's volume buttons to adjust the audio you hear.
Message and Incoming-Call Alerts
- Open Settings > Sounds & Haptics.
- Adjust the Ringtone and Alerts slider.
- Go to Settings > Notifications > TickTalk.
- Make sure Allow Notifications and Sounds are enabled.
If alerts are still silent, check Silent Mode and Focus / Do Not Disturb.
The Ringtone and Alerts slider adjusts alert volume; it does not select a custom TickTalk notification tone.
How to Adjust Sounds on Android
Setting names and available options vary by phone manufacturer and Android version.
During a Call
While the call is connected, press your phone's volume buttons to increase the active call audio.
If needed, expand the volume panel to view available controls. Depending on the phone and call type, app audio may use the Call or Media volume control.
Message and Incoming-Call Alerts
- Open Settings > Sound & vibration or Sounds and vibration.
- Open Volume, if shown.
- Increase Notification and Ring / Ringtone volume. Some phones combine these controls.
- Make sure the phone is in Sound mode rather than Vibrate or Mute.
Check TickTalk's Notification Settings
- Open Settings > Apps > TickTalk > Notifications, or Settings > Notifications > App notifications > TickTalk.
- Make sure notifications are allowed.
- If notification categories are available, open the relevant category and make sure it is set to Alerting rather than Silent.
- If a Sound option is available, select an audible notification sound.
Also check Do Not Disturb or other modes that may silence alerts.
